If you’re a Zoom user that’s unfamiliar with livestreaming, you’re halfway there. Here’s everything you need to become a pro streamer using Facebook.
In order to use Facebook Live to stream your Zoom meeting, it is best to make a scheduled Zoom meeting and a scheduled Facebook live video event.
Requirements:
- A Licensed Zoom account, with livestreaming enabled.
- If streaming from a Facebook page, you need to be an admin or editor of that page (Learn more here)
Tip: If it's your first time, create a test live stream to work through as you follow along so you can test going live.
Steps:
A. Schedule a Facebook Live video event
C. Connect Facebook Live to BuzzIt
A. Schedule a Facebook Live video event
1. If you are on a Facebook page account, you should see the option to go live under the Create section at the top of your timeline. Choose Live.
If you are on a personal account, you can find the option to go live under the What’s on your mind? section. Choose Live Video.
2. We need to create a pre-scheduled event, so click Select under Create live video event.
3. You will be taken to your live video event setup page. You can change your event’s details on the left and see a preview on the right. Enter your event details and click Next.
Tip: To draw more attendees to BuzzIt, add a CTA with a link in the ‘Description’ field. Here’s a template.
4. Here you can apply advanced settings to your live video. In the menu on the left, click on the Settings drop-down and then click Stream to access your stream settings.
We recommend turning off End live video if stream stops; you can leave all other default settings. Make sure the Embed live video setting is turned on.
Tip: Set your Comment settings to Followed and turn on Discussion and Block comments with link since your attendees will be chatting on BuzzIt.
5. Once you are happy with your event settings, click Create Event in the bottom left.
6. Once you see this confirmation screen, click Set Up Live Video.7. Now you will see your live video event control page. First, scroll down the menu on the left-hand side until you see Go live automatically at scheduled start time. Turn this setting off.
Then on the left-hand side menu, scroll down until you see the Event URL.
Next, on the top of the main page, choose Streaming software as the video source. Then open the Advanced settings dropdown menu.
This page contains the information you will need for Zoom and BuzzIt. Leave this window open.
B. Schedule a Zoom meeting
1. In a new window, go to your Zoom web portal (sign in at www.zoom.com), and click Schedule a Meeting.
Tip: We recommend using Zoom on a web browser instead of the desktop app because it is easier to set up the Zoom meeting and livestream configurations in the Zoom web portal.
2. Set up your meeting and click Save.
- To keep organized, make the meeting ‘Topic’ the same as your event title
- Also, set the start time to the same as your live stream start time
3. Once you see your meeting overview page, scroll to the bottom to find the Live Streaming section and click on Configure Custom Streaming Service.
Leave this window open and go to your Facebook stream settings window to get the required information: Stream URL, Stream key, Live streaming page URL
Note: Facebook uses different terminology than Zoom. The left column here lists Facebook's terms and the right column is the equivalent in Zoom.
Zoom | |
Server URL | Stream URL |
Event URL | Live streaming page URL |
Go back to your Zoom window and copy the three things into the Configure Custom Streaming Service window and click Save.
4. Go to the Live Streaming tab at the bottom of the zoom manage meeting page to see your stream details. You can Edit or Delete your live stream configurations here.
Tip: You can start, end and restart the Zoom meeting before the scheduled time to preview or practice the livestream.
Your Zoom meeting is now set up and ready to go for your event day.
C. Connect Facebook Live to BuzzIt
1. In another window, go to your BuzzIt event Home page and click the blue button in the bottom left-hand corner.
Click on LIVESTREAM CONFIG.
Click on the URL section in the Livestream Configurations window.
2. Go back to the Facebook window and go to the Settings tab on the left, open the dropdown menu and click Stream. Then in the Stream settings, go to Embed live video and click Get embed code.
Click Copy Embed Code.
3. Go back to BuzzIt and paste in your embed code and click outside of the text box. BuzzIt will extract the livestream link for you. Click CONFIRM CHANGES to save.
Note: Don’t worry if the video is unavailable for preview, it will become available once your Facebook event goes live.
4. Now your Facebook livestream is connected to BuzzIt! You can go back to Facebook and click Save Changes to save your event. You will be taken to the Live Producer page where you can access all of your scheduled events.
Live Producer page
Note: You can always come back to this page by going to the Home tab on facebook.com/live/producer For any event, click Set Up Live Video in order to access your live video event settings.
D. Go live on your event day
1. Once you’re ready to start livestreaming, go to your meeting page on the Zoom web portal and click Start this Meeting.
2. In the bottom menu bar of the meeting, click More and select Live on Custom Live Streaming Service. Expect this to take 8-12 seconds
3. After Zoom has started livestreaming, it will open your Facebook event page. Click Set Up Live Video to control your live video settings on Facebook.
On this page, you will see a preview of your Zoom meeting video. Once you are ready to start streaming on Facebook, click Go Live Now in the bottom left.
Once you go live, you will now see the Live dashboard. This is where you can control and moderate the ongoing livestream.
Tip: You can go live on Facebook anytime before the event’s scheduled time to practice or test your livestream. However, your event settings will reset after each instance. So after going live, once you end the stream and go back to the control page, you will need to enter the event details again on the right and remember to choose Streaming software as your video source.
Once your Facebook livestream has started, your stream will now be visible to attendees on BuzzIt:
Tip: Want to pause your broadcast? You can stop your Zoom livestream (without ending your Facebook livestream) at any time by clicking on the bar in the top left-hand corner of your zoom window and click Stop Live Stream. This stops your Zoom meeting from streaming to Facebook. It does not end your Zoom meeting, does not end your Facebook livestream, and you can restart it at any time.
To end the Facebook livestream: click End Live Video in the bottom left of your Live dashboard on Facebook.
Note: Ending the Facebook livestream will not end your Zoom meeting.
